The inflation rate fell in May

The Consumer Price Index recorded inflation of 1.9 per cent in May.  This was seven decimal points below the figure recorded for April, mainly due to lower fuel prices which have led to cheaper travel.  This confirms previously published advance figures.  Inflation has now been positive for nine months running, despite the fact that for the first time this year, it is now below the two per cent level.
